Overview
Elderberry extract is one of the most commonly used medicinal plants in the world. Native Americans used it to treat infections. The ancient Egyptians used it to improve skin tone and treat burns. It is still collected and used as folk medicine in many parts of Europe. Today, elderberry is most commonly used as a supplement to treat cold and flu symptoms. The most common type is black elderberry, also known as European elderberry or black elderberry. Black elderberry, with its flowers and berries, is known as the "medicine chest of the people".
